These five watches below boast movements so cool you’ll want to wear them dial down—what’s more, they’re all affordable.
Frederique Constant Classic Manufacture FC-710MB4H6
Frederique Constant is a brand that makes some great affordable Swiss timepieces, and this watch from the Classics collection is one of them. With a monochrome appearance, it makes an ideal watch for everyday wear. The movement powering this piece is the calibre FC-710 which features a 42-hour power reserve. Not only that but it looks great too, with a striking gold rotor, circular Geneva stripes and diamond cut bevels.
Nomos Glashutte Club Campus 38 Night 738
Coming straight from Germany’s watchmaking hub, Nomos Glashütte offers a contemporary approach to watches and their designs, flaunting clean dials that are perfect for all occasions. Flip this Club Campus 38 on its back, though, and you’ll find the in-house Alpha calibre—a steel movement studded with an array of electric purple jewels and blue screws, as well as gold branding and chatons.

Another watchmaker to make quality but affordable timepieces is Oris. This handsome watch from the Artix range features a plain black dial with day and date windows at 6 o’clock on a steel case and bracelet. Through the open caseback you can see the watch’s movement which flaunts a unique red rotor that stands out against the bulk of the grey steel parts, along with the gold ratchet wheels.
Tissot PRX Powermatic 80
This slick 70s-inspired timepiece pays homage to the iconic pieces of the era. We’re talking about the AP Royal Oak and the Patek Philippe Nautilus, of course. But the coolness of this Tissot doesn’t stop at the exterior. Featuring the Powermatic 80.111 calibre, this is an impressive movement with a squiggly pattern engraved on the rotor, as well as gold accents complementing the silver-coloured steel movement.

This salmon pink watch from Baltic makes a brilliant choice for a stunning timepiece that won’t break the bank—plus, it’s giving us visions of the Patek Philippe 5270P Grand Complications, and that’s not a bad watch to be compared to. Although the Baltic features a fairly cheap Chinese movement, it does have a combination of perlage finishing on the micro-rotor and cote de Geneve stripes, giving it a striking finish that’s certainly impressive for its price tag.
